Ash Wednesday or Irish No Smoking Day

Today is the start of Ash Wednesday. For all those non-catholics like me I thought we should at least make a note of it.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs forty-six days (forty days not counting Sundays) before Easter. It is a moveable feast, falling on a different date each year because it is dependent on the date of Easter. It can occur as early as 4 February or as late as 10 March.

Now while I was at least aware of Ash Wednesday, this one slipped right by me so lets learn together -

Today is also National No Smoking Day
In the Republic of Ireland, Ash Wednesday is National No Smoking Day. The date was chosen because quitting smoking ties in with giving up luxury for Lent. In the United Kingdom, No Smoking Day was held for the first time on Ash Wednesday 1984, but is now fixed as the second Wednesday in March.


So bring on the feasting and No smoking if you please

And then Hugh, Oh Hugh! Not only is this man so hot it must be a sin. But when he talks I melt. And I hear he's quite the sweet in real life. Drool
